Different Types of Interior & Exterior Doors

Doors have been of the most significant life-changing inventions creating barriers in different rooms of a structure and bringing about privacy in each. This privacy with time has been enhanced with the invention of soundproof doors.

These doors are very beneficial. For instance, they offer security, efficiency, and privacy by blocking sound, allowing one to have confidential meetings, and reducing noise, ensuring you are healthy and not affected by excess loud noises. There is a whole pool of different types of acoustic door, categorized into the interior and exterior doors.

    INTERIOR DOORS

The following are the most recommended types of interior soundproof door you should go for:

    1. Solid-core Doors

Solid-core doors are basically made up in an interim construction way. The wood veneer is glued over a solid core made of engineered wood fiberboard. It is made with quality wood veneers glued over a solid core of engineered or composite wood, giving them the primary virtues of both solid wood and hollow-core doors: they are relatively affordable yet quite sturdy and solid in feel. The wood’s great density makes it heavier and stronger than other solid wood doors.

These doors’ prices are at least fair and more affordable than solid wood. The sound blockage is excellent. And they also offer good fire resistance due to their thickness. Their Construction features make them resistant to expansion and contraction due to temperature infatuation.

Unfortunately, with solid-core doors, you are limited to choosing the style since they come in very few styles. They are also a bit difficult to install and are heavy.

    2. Solid Composite Door

Just as their name suggests, solid composite doors are made from any wood, either soft or hard. The fiberboard is covered with fir wood preserving the border and bringing out a solid wood texture that enhances the combination of more pressure as compared to other doors. Solid core composite doors are able to withstand high pressure.

The solid composite door is also a good insulator. It prevents the transmission of sound waves because of the dense wooden nature. Due to its wooden components, it poses great strength and the ability to withstand high pressure. More so, since wood is a good insulator of heat, it does not allow heat to transmit. Solid composite doors also prevent the transmission of sound waves.

Despite its great qualities, the solid composite door is highly prone to expansion and contraction with changing weather conditions. Hence, these doors are not economical as they require high maintenance costs.

    3. Barn Doors

These interior door types have been gaining a lot of popularity in the modern world. The door basically features a door slab that is run along a rail, such that it covers and uncovers the opening of the door. Barn doors usually lack any door swing, making them ideal for smaller spaces.

For instance, you can use a barn door as a closet door, bathroom door or even a bedroom door. These doors come in a wide range of variety, such as glass doors, double barn doors, panel doors and door slabs made of thick solid wood. Therefore, you can always rest assured that you will find a barn door that perfectly fits the look, style, feel and function of the room that you intend to install.

However, regardless of the fact that barn doors are ideal for small spaces, these doors still require that one leaves double the door width, such that there is always enough space to fit the rail and open the door.

    EXTERIOR DOORS

The following are the most common types of exterior soundproof doors:

    1. Acoustic doors

The acoustic door has a material that insulates and creates a barrier against sound. The core of these doors often contains insulating foam or a reinforced core.

Also, these doors have an acoustic seal. Like an intumescent seal, they work to create an air-tight seal around the door to prevent sound transmission. Its properties and air-tight seal give it the ability to withstand and protect against fire.

    2. Double Glazed Door

Double glazed doors are bonded together by a spacer and separated by a hermetically sealed argon gas-filled space. The hermetically sealed space and the additional pane of glass provide insulation against heat loss.

A double glazed door is an acoustically designed door solution with an air-filled core making it soundproof. Hence, the door offers enough privacy to a room, and above all, it is usually inexpensive. Due to their dense nature, double glazed doors are mostly preferred for use as exterior doors.

    3. Dutch Doors

Dutch doors are usually designed in a more traditional ‘farm’ style. They are wood doors that have been cut in half. Hence, their design allows the top part of the Dutch doors to remain open while the bottom part stays shut. Still, both the top and the bottom part can be easily secured together, such that people can use it as a single door when need be.

A Dutch door is mainly preferred to be used as a patio door as an exterior type of door. When installed at the entrance of a home or premises, a Dutch door can enhance the look of the home, giving it a unique and classic look. Also, Dutch doors make it much easier to keep an eye on the kids and pets.

Hence, if you are looking to add a classy, rustic feel to your home or premises, then out should go for a Dutch door. What’s even better, these traditional ‘farm’ style doors can also be used as interior doors.

    Conclusion

If you are searching for the best door type and design, a soundproof door should be among your top choices. These heavily insulated doors usually offer many advantages, from keeping rooms quiet and peaceful to be able to withstand fires and heat.

Therefore, if you are looking for an interior or exterior door, go for the above most recommended soundproof doors, and you will undoubtedly improve the quality and efficiency of your home or premises.
