You’ve probably heard of this by now — the “all you-can-eat sushi challenge”. It’s been featured in a few articles on sites like College Humor and The Chive. And if you love sushi, it’s a super cool concept. To discover answers to my questions, such as is this challenge legit? and how big of a meal can you really get (and consume)? I reached out to Sake Sushi Bar & Restaurant in San Diego to ask the manager some questions.

How to Win All You Can Eat Sushi Challenge
1. Know Your Limits
Many people make the mistake of overstretching themselves during an all-you-can-eat challenge by eating too much too quickly. This is a good way to end up vomiting after just a few pieces of raw tuna, or worse yet, running out of stomach room before you can finish your plate. If you want to win an all-you-can-eat competition, it’s important to know your limits and pace yourself accordingly. storyretelling
2. Don’t Rush Your Meal
It’s tempting to rush through an all-you-can-eat meal as quickly as possible, but this is one of the surest ways to lose. If you take your time and enjoy each piece of sushi as it comes out on your plate, you’ll be more likely to enjoy yourself and get full faster than if you wolf down every last piece like there’s no tomorrow!
3. Don’t Eat Too Much at Once
One of the most common reasons people lose an all-you-can-eat sushi competition is because they try to eat too much at once. If you take a bite of a piece of sushi and find that it’s not as good as you remember, don’t finish it off just because your plate is full. Instead, put the sushi down and move on to another one so that you have more room for better sushi later on in the meal!
4. Don’t Order Sushi That You Know You Won’t Like
The last thing you want to do is waste money on a plate of sushi that isn’t worth eating. While this may seem obvious, many people get caught up in the excitement of an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet and order something they don’t even like just because it sounds interesting or unique.
